Choosing the right locker for your work environment is essential for maintaining hygiene, organisation and compliance with industry standards. The right locker solution ensures durability, with materials that withstand frequent cleaning and sanitisation. Additionally, well-designed storage improves workflow efficiency, supporting a cleaner and more structured workspace. Whether you need enhanced ventilation, compartmentalised or extra secure lockers, selecting the right option is key to ensuring a safe and efficient changing room flow.

Teknomek’s hygienic design

We always pride ourselves on creating hygienically optimised designs using the best quality of materials. Teknomek offers the choice of solid or wire mesh stainless steel & mild steel as well as Sealwise lockers to suit any and all settings within the food, life science and pharmaceutical industry. All of our steel lockers include coat hooks for functionality as well as a sloping top to discourage staff from storing items on top of the furniture. This prevents the accumulation of dust and debris as well as aiding drainage during the wash down process.

Materials:

One of the key factors to consider when choosing a new locker system is the material it is constructed from as this can have big implications for the long-term durability and cleanability of the item. We highlight the considerations for each material below:

Stainless steel

Highly durable, our our 304L and 316L stainless steel lockers offer long-lasting chemical and corrosion resistance that can withstand stringent cleaning protocols. Its non-porous surface offers superior resistance to environmental factors as well as promising longevity in strict hygienic settings. These stainless steel lockers may be heavier than those comprised from alternative materials, but this makes them a better option for high-traffic areas with greater stability.

Best for: high-hygiene environments such as life science (pharmaceutical) companies and food and drink processing companies.

Mild steel

Our mild steel lockers are a cost-effective option for low-risk areas. Our solid mild steel lockers are available with a customisable, powder-coated finish. This coating can safely withstand general cleaning, but we would not recommend it for areas requiring regular clean downs using harsh chemicals or environments with high-humidity. If this coating is chipped, extra care must be taken to prevent bacterial build up in the damaged area as the steel will now be exposed to moisture and can lead to rust.

Best for: dry environments, general storage and non-food industry settings such as warehousing, manufacturing & industrial facilities.

Sealwise

Our Sealwise lockers are constructed from 100% waterproof construction board that is coated with a Sealwise Protect (Silver ion) coating providing built-in bacterial protection. Its non-porous surface is also chemical resistant while its core, constructed from recycled materials, offers a lightweight, eco-friendly solution to lab furniture.

Best for: damp environments, laboratories and areas requiring a water-resistant alternative to metal.

Ventilation

While all of Teknomek’s solid lockers provide door vents for air circulation, we now also offer wire mesh lockers in a choice of stainless or mild steel for enhanced ventilation. These are ideal for the storage of wet or damp clothing, preventing odours and aiding the drying process to prevent the growth of mould and bacteria.

If your work environment is wet or humid, we would also recommend choosing a locker design with feet such as our stainless steel & Sealwise variants or purchasing locker stand (for use with our mild steel models). By lifting the unit off the floor, you are preventing moisture retention, bacterial growth and enabling easy cleaning underneath the furniture.

Security

Keeping security at the forefront of our hygienic designs, our solid mild steel lockers are available with a choice of camlock or hasp & staple as standard. In comparison, our solid stainless steel lockers are provided with a camlock as standard but other locks are available upon request including a master key option.

Our new wire mesh lockers also provide heightened security thanks to the 3-point locking system that secures the door at the top, middle and bottom. The hasp and staple mechanism allows users to opt for a padlock of their choice for a tailored approach to security. The wire mesh construction also provides the added security benefit of full visibility of stored contents. This not only acts as a theft deterrent but also facilitates quicker visual inspections to ensure cleanliness and compliance.

Colour coding

Teknomek’s collection of solid mild steel lockers are available in six door colours and two carcass/stand colours to help businesses segregate areas. This visible distinction between areas can help enforce a hygienic mindset among staff by helping to raise awareness as they enter or exit areas across your facility.

Modular designs and multi-nesting

The majority of our lockers can be linked together for multi-nesting. This not only maximises floor space but also provides increased structural integrity by reducing movement. Our modular designs also allow for customisable storage solutions with different sizes, compartments and layouts to fit specific storage needs.
