We are excited to announce that we have recently launched a new range of mobile safety steps that are designed to provide customers with complete confidence in their safety and compliance. Designed specifically for hygiene-critical environments, the 5-step model has been independently tested by the British Standards Institution (BSI) to BS EN 131-7 for maximum assurance in user safety and compliance. We explore what this means in more detail below:
What is BS EN 131-7 - and why does it matter?
BS EN 131-7 is the European standard specifically covering mobile steps and platforms. It rigorously assesses safety-critical performance areas. For customers operating in regulated environments, compliance with BS EN 131-7 is a key factor in reducing workplace risk and demonstrating due diligence.
BSI testing of the 5-step configuration confirms:
- 150 kg maximum load capacity
- Structural strength and stability, supported by a widened leg design
- Slip resistance, achieved through checker-plate steps and platform
- Guardrail and handrail integrity, including an additional safety rail between the platform and upper handrail
- Durability under repeated use in demanding environments
Unlike products that rely solely on the manufacturer’s design, Teknomek’s independently tested safety steps offer verified assurance that safety performance has been formally assessed against a recognised standard. This can also be used to prove due diligence in your next audit with a letter of conformity to assist with insurance inspections and internal risk assessments.

Why the 5-step model was tested
By testing the most demanding configuration, we could provide confidence across the entire range. The 2, 3 and 4-step variants are designed and constructed using the same materials, construction methods, design principles and safety-critical features to ensure that these smaller configurations meet the same BS EN 131-7 requirements.
Safety steps you can rely on
Teknomek’s mobile safety steps are available in 2, 3, 4 and 5-step configurations, offering flexibility for a wide range of operational requirements.
