Handwashing is more than just a routine - it’s a critical control point in preventing contamination and ensuring compliance. Every touchpoint poses a risk in high care production facilities and having the right touch-free technology not only streamlines processes but also reduces cross-contamination and even supports better resource management.
That’s why we offer a range of hygienic designs for our customers to choose from, with a touch-free option available wherever possible, helping to maintain high hygiene standards without compromising on functionality or control. We explore why these simple choices can have a big impact on your facility below:
Knee operated or infra-red – the choice is yours
While sinks and wash troughs may be a crucial piece of equipment for any hygienic environment, taps can pose a big issue. Not only are manual taps a breeding ground for bacteria, they can also lead to water wastage, vastly increasing the total cost of ownership despite potentially lower initial investment. Teknomek’s wash troughs and sinks are available with the choice of knee operation or infrared sensor taps. These both have their respective benefits with the knee-operated version allowing staff to activate the tap for as long as they need, while the infrared tap offers the ability to be programmed with a water purge setting to help prevent the build-up of Listeria.
Our infrared sensor taps automatically activate once hands are detected, reducing the duration of the water stream and restricting water waste as a result. When paired with our handheld programmer, managers can adjust flow times with an automatic shut-off ensuring consistent, efficient and economical use. The data provided by the handheld programmer also enables businesses to compare usage across shifts, giving an indication of how much staff prioritise hygiene before entering high risk areas.
In comparison, our knee operated wash troughs provide a more simplistic approach with an easily accessible paddle located underneath the unit. This mechanical operation is highly reliable due to the lack of electrical components but doesn’t provide the level of monitoring that infrared taps with a handheld programmer can.
We also offer elbow-operated and infrared soap dispensers alongside our contact-free hand-drying solutions to create a smooth hand washing flow free from unnecessary touch surfaces that may lead to cross-contamination across your facility.
Continuing the touch-free process
Depending on the PPE being stored, the process outlined above can be complemented using our open front and front access PPE dispensers. These designs provide quick and easy access for staff without the need of lifting a flap or lid. For example, our front access dispenser is available in multi-slot variations for a dispensing solution that offers all of the protective equipment staff may need in one place.
Similarly, opting for an “open” bin without a lid or choosing to have a foot-operated lid mechanism can reduce the risk of waste disposal processes. However, we would always recommend having assigned staff for waste disposal procedures in processing areas to ensure that the product they are handling does not get contaminated when handling waste too.
Building a safer, more efficient environment
Investing in touch-free technology isn’t just about modernising your facility - it’s about building a safer, more efficient environment where hygiene is second nature. Whether it’s knee-operated taps, programmable infrared systems or contactless PPE and waste solutions, each detail plays a role in protecting your product, your people, and your reputation. At Teknomek, we’re committed to helping our customers make smart, hygienic choices that support compliance and continuous improvement because, in high-care settings, every touchpoint matters.
