Safe and hygienic transportation across your facility
To reduce the risk of contamination, it’s important to consider the furniture and equipment used at each stage of the product journey rather than just the processing/production stage. Hygienic equipment should be used during every stage of the process – starting at staff sanitisation protocols all the way to the transport of the product to the end user. By maintaining this focus on easy to clean, protective equipment throughout the product journey, you can truly ensure that there is no opportunity for cross-contamination to take place. In this blog, we discuss the key considerations to minimise contamination risks as you navigate your hygienic facility from A to B.
Hygienic designs are only as good as a hygienic staff culture
As we all know, contamination can lead to costly fines, product recalls and even site closures, but Teknomek is here to help. We offer a variety of trolleys to help preserve product integrity and remove contamination risks, but our hygienic designs can only go so far. We’ve compiled a few of the key considerations to make during the transportation of a product to ensure that your hygienic equipment goes the distance.
Cleanability
Any potential transportation equipment should be quick and easy to clean between uses. This is especially important as any leftover residue from previous cargoes can contaminate future loads.
Protection
Whether you choose a trolley or a tote bin, it’s vital that all products are adequately sealed. Low-quality packaging materials may not provide sufficient protection during handling as any damaged layers could allow contaminants such as bacteria, dust and moisture to set in.
Handling procedures
Workers involved in loading, unloading, or inspecting goods may unintentionally introduce contaminants through improper hygiene practices. This can be easily avoided by enforcing a strict hygiene culture and establishing an effective changing room regime among the workforce.
Stability
Trolleys can reduce the risk of worker injury by facilitating easy movement of heavy or bulky loads. This can also indirectly contribute to better hygiene by preventing the need for rushed or improper handling. Many trolleys are built to securely hold products with features such as locking wheels to prevent unintentional movement. This reduces the risk of spills or accidents that could cause contamination.
Types of trolley
Teknomek trolleys are manufactured from 304-grade stainless steel to provide strength, durability and high corrosion resistance. These properties are vital to hygienic environments as they ensure longevity under stringent cleaning and sterilisation processes. Our innovative, easy to clean designs eliminate crevices where dirt or bacteria might accumulate. Featuring easy-to-manoeuvre castors with optional brakes, the Teknomek trolley range ensures stability during transport.
Heavy duty solid shelved trolley
Our heavy-duty trolley provides robust support for heavy loads, making it ideal for transporting bulkier items while reducing the risk of spillage or contamination. The solid shelves are easy to clean while also preventing liquid and debris from spilling into lower levels.
Wire shelved trolley
The open design of our wire shelved trolleys allows for excellent air circulation. This helps to regulate temperatures as well as offering good drainage for wet items that have been washed or sanitised. These trolleys are also a good option for cleanroom environments measuring particulate matter as they have a reduced surface area where contaminates can settle.
Gastronorm and euro container trolleys
Our gastronorm and euro container trolleys are designed to accommodate multiple standard-sized pans and containers used in the food industry. While the number of shelves provided with the euro container trolley depends on the size of container you intend to store, the gastronorm trolley is available with a capacity of 7, 18 or 36 containers up to 65mm deep.
Single bay trolley
The Teknomek single bay trolley offers safe transport of baking trays measuring 762 x 457mm. Available with the choice of 12 or 18 tiers, this trolley is perfect for bakery or food production.
Enclosed solutions
Providing secure transport for more sensitive items, our fully enclosed trolleys and railed shelf cages protect items from accidental knocks, drops and spillages. While the railed shelf cages are recommended for products that require enhanced ventilation and temperature regulation, the fully enclosed trolley provides an isolated environment as items are transported between hygienic zones. With a reduced risk of cross-contamination from external environments, the casing acts as a barrier, preventing exposure to harmful microbes and airborne particles that may compromise product integrity. This is particularly important in environments with stringent cleanliness requirements, such as cleanrooms or sterile areas.
Choose the right hygienic storage solution for your needs
At Teknomek, we aim to offer a hygienic solution for every area of a hygienic facility - and that includes the transportation between zones. While there are plenty of trolleys to choose from, the correct transportation solution will ultimately depend on the products you are moving, the containers being used and the levels of hygiene you are maintaining.
